Planet Earth is the home we all share. "Out of sight, out of mind" is a very irresponsible and damaging attitude. It's our responsibility to every living species on the planet to reduce our impact on the environment. Failure to address operational inefficiency and wasteful practice demonstrates apathy towards the future of mankind and all other species on our planet. Sounds a little intense? We agree.
Even after implementing strict eco-friendly standards in all aspects of our company, we still generate a carbon footprint (like all other businesses). In effort to offset our environmental impact, we donate tree planting funds to the National Forest Foundation. These donations are used to actively support reforestation by planting trees in National Forests that need some help. Since we take from the planet, it only makes sense to give back. Contributions to these programs are based on total revenue. As our company continues to grow, so do our contributions. We have an exciting goal of planting 25,000 trees by 2025.

We believe health isn't the only necessary consideration when developing a responsible brand. Skin care is a massive industry expected to reach 150 billion dollars annually by 2020. The use of toxic chemicals, unsustainable ingredients and virgin packaging in a gigantic industry has gigantic impacts on our environment. We live on a finite planet with an increasing demand for resources. Implementing a truly sustainable operation is the only way to responsibly move forward. Every detail of our operation is designed to minimize environmental impact. All paper products are made from 100% recycled and biodegradable material, even the smallest things like our receipt paper is 100% recycled, bpa free and biodegradable. Our plastic containers are made from 100% BPA free, post consumer material. Your get the idea. The list goes on and on.
We don't adopt the out of sight, out of mind mentality. We consider the impact of our products and operations from seedling to disposal. We don't use palm oil or any ingredient that has a reputation for questionable cultivation or harvesting methods. We only use certified organic plant oils and herbs who's farming methods have minimal impact on our planet.

HOLY CRAP... Even when you only consider UPS and FedEX packages, roughly 6.97 BILLION packages are shipped each year. Thats 6,970,000,000 packages. Now consider the roughly 205,500,000,000 pieces of mail (letters and packages) that USPS ships each year. These numbers are hard to comprehend. Anyways, the point here is, the shipping industry requires a lot of paper / boxes. Using eco-friendly shipping supplies can make a HUGE difference in our resources consumption.
What Are We Doing About it ?
Well, we don't think NOT shipping stuff is the best, or a sane option. We just need to be smart about how we ship. We only use biodegradable boxes made from 100% recycled material (post consumer and post industrial) to ship all products from Whole Body Apothecary headquarters. All packaging (void fill) inside our boxes is made from 100% recycled or reused materials.

A Rant About Our Currant State Of Corporatocracy and Profiteering
It's no longer a conspiracy that humanity is destroying this planet for corporate gain. Profiteering is aggressively pursued at the expense of social and environmental sustainability. The sustainable option is not always cheapest or easiest, but when did we decide a few dollars is more important than the preservation of our home (Earth)? When did mass, cheap production of palm oil become more important than the rain forest and indigenous species who live there? When did saving a few bucks become more important than the livelihood of impoverished workers.
The reality is, many products are wiping out resources and introducing devastating toxicity to world around us. From chemical biocides in crop cultivation and the over use of water to slave labor, the practices some companies employ are ethically unfathomable and should be considered criminal.
We're all living together on this planet, not independent of anything else. Everything we need to survive comes from everything around us. Not caring about how a product effects our plant is not caring about anybody or anything else on it. There is no black hole in the middle of the ocean absorbing all the toxic chemicals and trash we produce. It all stays right here with us. It won't be long (especially relative to the life of our planet) before we're buried in our own crap. At that point, dollar bills will be nothing more that a fancy design on a special piece of paper.
